I appreciate it if someone can post an an example for function CHANNELS showing the usage of the regular expression filter.

Basically I would like to get a count of active channels having a certain criteria. Is it possible to search for a channel having a custom variable set to specific value (directly in dialplan or thru agi)?

Our Asterisk version is 1.8.
