Hi,

Among TFTP, FTP, HTTP and others, which protocol would you select to
provision Polycom phones.
At the moment, I’m using TFTP but I’m wondering if I should pick something
else.

The reasons I’m asking are :
– with the TFTP server I’m using, you can’t upload a file that don’t already
exists,
– I’m reading errors in logs (read: Connection refused) I can’t explain.

I would say HTTP is the more natural successor to TFTP in this case but
would be happy to hear from others.

Regards.

  • I use HTTP at home for better boot time and FTP is the server is
distant. I didn’t like using TFTP because I didn’t want to install yet
another server. If you already run one, it may be the best choice.

  • We use HTTP(S) for our system with a few thousand phones.

It’s much more flexible than using TFTP and with scripts you can easily
generate configs on-the-fly for different phones.
